Brain Injury Rehabilitation Information
San Francisco Bay Area - Los Angeles - San Diego
The process of overcoming the residuals of a serious brain injury can last a lifetime. Special therapies, training, counseling and adaption costs money. At Walkup we know that our clients face a long and expensive road to recovery. Sometimes the physical, functional deficits resulting from TBI can be more likely to resolve and are a smaller long-term problem than the cognitive effects of the TBI. In treatment, it is important to determine which cognitive issues are the most pressing, then to tailor the treatment program to those issues. Much of the subsequent treatment then focuses on retraining the injured person on many basic life skills, including social, work, and basic financial skills.
Because the damage caused by severeTBI can be so extensive and permanent, an injured person's family members also need support due to the stress and pressure inherent in providing continuous care for a permanently injured loved one. Further, because there is often no cure and no resolution of all (or sometimes any) symptoms, the financial and emotional costs of treatment often last for the rest of the injured person's life.
